Baños the Agua Santa

Located at the foothills of the Tungurahua Volcano, it is considered a great touristic attraction for its mineral and medicinal waters. It is a popular destination for those who want to practice adventure sports such as rafting, bungee jumping, canyoning and mountain biking.
In A few kilometers from Baños you can find the waterfalls Route, which consists of 20 of them, you can also enjoy the longest tarabitas in the world leading to the Llanganates Ecological Reserve, which has an exotic ecosystem of unique flora and fauna.

Baños no tuvo fundador ni fecha alguna de fundación, simplemente fue poblado por pequeños grupos indios, mestizos y españoles que comercializaban productos desde el Oriente hasta la Sierra. Y desde aquel tiempo este lugar cautivo a todo aquel que acudía a refrescarse en sus vertientes de aguas termales provenientes de las entrañas del volcán Tungurahua.
La fecha de cantonización según el registro oficial data del 16 de Diciembre de 1944. Remontándonos más a la historia es importante mencionar que en 1933 se inauguran las piscinas del Cangrejo. El Padre Sebastián Acosta culmina la Basílica y el Convento de la Virgen de Agua Santa en 1944. Entre 1956 y 1960 Camilo Ponce Enríquez construye el puente de Las Juntas, las Piscinas Modernas, el túnel de Agoyán y concluye la carretera de Riobamba – Baños.

Sanctuary of the Virgin Holy Water

Located at the city old town, it is a basilica that was built in 1904 by the Belgian priest Cornelio Halflants, inside the basilica it history is expressed in 21 paintings by Ecuadorian artists that reveal the miracles of the Queen of the Rosary of Holy Water.

The Virgin Waterfalls

It is known as the hair of the Virgin, born from a slope of Bellavista hill, is the only waterfall in the country located within the urban boundaries.

Pailón Del Diablo Waterfalls

It is located 4 kilometers to the south of Baños, where it is reached after a 20 minute walk along well-defined ecological trails, you can find 3 beautiful waterfalls which form a fabulous whirlpool. Its name comes from the big rock that seems to have the face of the devil. This waterfall begins at the Llanganates mountains and has quartz its green waters.

San Martín Eco Zoo

Located at San Vicente 1.5 km from the urban part of Baños, is one of the few zoological gardens in the country. It is surrounded by a magnificent landscape that shows some of the fauna of Ecuador. Around 150 animals, including Amazonian species, are exhibited.

Mantle of the Bride Waterfalls

It is located at 10 km from Baños, this 70 m high waterfall has the longest and highest tarabita of Ecuador (500 meters of route 100 meters high) above the Pastaza River. On the other side there are ecological walks, botanical gardens.
